The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, on Thursday called on all Peruvians to join a national crusade to protect the environment.

"Today, I call on all Peruvians to unite in a crusade for a country more committed to the environment. Peru has a National Environmental Education Policy currently being updated, with guidelines to promote environmentally sustainable behaviors at home, in workplaces, schools, and the community," she emphasized.

Mrs. Boluarte made these statements after attending the signing of an agreement to strengthen environmental education between the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Education.

This event was held at Teresa Gonzalez de Fanning school in Lima's Jesus Maria district as part of World Environment Day.

During her speech, the Head of State highlighted the approval of the National Strategy on Climate Change through 2050, the main comprehensive management tool designed to guide and facilitate the State’s actions over the next 25 years to address this global threat.

Similarly, the top official emphasized that all citizens share the responsibility of caring for our planet, which involves taking actions that may seem small but have a significant impact on the environment.

"World Environment Day is an opportunity to reflect on the progress and challenges we face both as a State and as a society," she stated.

Before her speech, the Head of State swore in the students who are part of the environmental education and disaster risk management brigades at Teresa Gonzalez de Fanning School.

"You are now officially protectors of the environment. Your mission begins; remember that every small act counts, and together we can make a big difference," Mrs. Boluarte said, addressing the pupils.

Currently, more than 54,000 schools nationwide have environmental education and disaster risk management brigades.
