An interpretation room will be available for visitors to the archaeological complex of Pañamarca —located in Ancash's Nepeña district.
The purpose of this room is to determine the role and meaning of the historical and cultural heritage at this archaeological monument.
The place will also feature a set of original pieces (huacos), which date back to 3rd–7th centuries AD.
The decision was taken at a meeting —chaired by the Sub Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Disrcetur)— aimed at analyzing the strategies, measures, and recommendations focused on the development and
reactivation of tourism in Ancash region.
"The aim is to add value to this archaeological center and give visitors a clearer idea of the civilizations that inhabited this valley," said Marcelino Romero, head of Nepeña's Education, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Unit.
Romero announced that the Municipality of Nepeña will use around 300 plants (molle) —donated by Del Santa Province Municipality— to erect a perimeter fence around the area.
The meeting included the participation of authorities and heads of tourism departments from different municipalities in Del Santa Province.
Also attending were travel agents and promoters, the National Police of Peru, and the Commander of the Port Captaincy in Chimbote, who noted the importance of implementing epidemiological protocols for tourists, due to the
COVID-19 pandemic.
The archaeological complex of Pañamarca is located in the Capellania zone, in the heart of Nepeña Valley. The site consists of various staggered adobe constructions on different hills, which are believed to have been the bases of a ceremonial temple.
