The Government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has appointed retired Ambassador Oscar Maurtua as Permanent Representative of Peru to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The designation was established by Supreme Resolution 083-2022-RE published Tuesday in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The rule provides for issuing credentials and full powers to serve in that position of the international organization based in the city of Madrid.

According to the Constitution, it is the duty of the President of the Republic to appoint Ambassadors and Plenipotentiaries —upon approval by the Cabinet and with the duty to inform Congress.

The latest resolution was signed by President Pedro Castillo and Foreign Affairs Minister Cesar Landa.

As is known, Maurtua served twice as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, between August 2005-July 2006 and August 2021-February 2022.
