Peru: Optimus Primal becomes great attraction in San Martin region

11:00 | Tarapoto (San Martin region), Jan. 23.

A sculpture of Optimus Primal, the character who made his appearance in "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" —the Hollywood movie filmed in Peru— continues to cause a sensation in the South American country's San Martin region.

Recently, it has become one of the main attractions at the viewpoint area known as Punta del Gallinazo.

The Optimus Primal statue was placed on the afternoon of January 21 in one of the spaces at the viewpoint, which is located on the road to Sauce district —another important tourist destination in San Martin region that stands out for its beautiful lake.

Optimus Primal had been placed at Tarapoto's Main Square for two days, causing a great sensation among visitors, especially children who could not stop taking photos to record the beautiful moment.

This was reported by Rony Flores, representative of the Tourism Faculty at the National University of San Martin.

He stated that the initiative's manager was businessman Santos Edmundo Cachay, owner of the Punta del Gallinazo Viewpoint —a site from where people can observe the immensity of Huallaga River banks featuring vegetation of different green shades, in which cacao plantations and fruit trees prevail amid a scorching heat.

Flores also explained that Cusco region's artist Oscar Marquez was in charge of the statue construction, since he had previously built one of giant hands and other artworks that can be seen at Punta del Gallinazo.

The Optimus Primal design was planned six months ago and promoted with great success in the city of Tarapoto.

Now it is part of the attractions found at the tourist viewpoint, Flores said.
