Peruvian Labor and Employment Promotion Minister Daniel Maurate affirmed that the launch of the new Jorge Chavez International Airport and the Chancay Megaport will demand thousands of jobs starting next year.

"Last week, we were at Jorge Chavez International Airport to observe the employment demand that will be (available) there, considering that it will start operations on December 18. So, starting next year, there will be 156 companies allied and linked to the airline industry, creating 121,000 new jobs," Maurate noted.

"Next year, Peru will be much better, even more so if we add that we will have the Chancay Megaport (whose inauguration is scheduled for November 2024). There will be a Chancay Park where around 20,000 new jobs will also be generated," he indicated.

During the signing of employment contracts involving more than 800 people who arrived at the Employment Center, Minister Maurate said that they are talking with operators of the new Jorge Chavez International Airport and the Chancay Megaport to review the profiles that will be demanded for those new jobs.

"We will sign agreements and the Employment Center, of course, will be very active in hiring for this labor-related demand. We were already told that there will be a need for workers who have digital skills and who speak English," Maurate indicated.

"Peru is on a good path; the Jorge Chavez International Airport alone will account for 0.6% of gross domestic product (GDP), taking into account that it will be, possibly, the most modern airport in Latin America," he added.

"Of course, Peruvians, youth, engineers, (professionals from) all careers have to be preparing for this labor demand," Maurate concluded.
