The Government has released the updated list of priority groups of people who will receive the COVID-19 vaccine during the first phase of the immunization process, as stated in the National COVID-19 Vaccination Registry.
The change was made in Phase 1, but the lists in Phase 2 and Phase 3 remain unchanged.
Phase 1 was originally intended to protect the integrity of the health system, as well as the continuity of essential services. It included health staff (in the private and public sectors).
According to the current document, an item in Phase 1 was modified, and reads as follows: "Any person who provides services, regardless of the nature of their employment and contractual relationship, in the different instances of the health sector."
This phase will also prioritize members of the Armed Forces and
National Police, firefighters, the Red Cross, security staff, municipal patrol guards, brigade members, cleaning personnel, students in health programs, and polling station members for
the upcoming general elections.
According to the National Vaccination Plan, Phase 2 aims to reduce severe morbidity and mortality in the population considered to be most at risk. So, the goal is to vaccinate elderly citizens aged 60 years old and above, people with serious comorbidities, native or indigenous communities,
National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) personnel, and persons deprived of liberty.
On the other hand, Phase 3 is expected to reduce the transmission of infection in continuity and build herd immunity. So, this stage considers people aged between 18 and 59.
