Deputy Tourism Minister Madeleine Burns and APEC Peru 2024 Working Group Chairman, Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur, met to coordinate actions aimed at organizing the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum to be hosted by Peru next year.

During the session, various topics were discussed, such as the organization of meetings to be held by Trade and Tourism ministers of the 21 economies that make up the bloc.

It will be the third time that Peru welcomes leaders or representatives of APEC member economies.

Event organization

After assuming the bloc's presidency later this yearPeru will be in charge of organizing approximately 150 meetings of various levels and nature among the economies that make up the APEC.

This will mean the arrival in Peru of more than 8,000 delegates, who —in turn— will denote revenue for tourism and consumption, Ambassador Chavez-Taffur indicated earlier this month.

Similarly, the diplomat underscored that, since the country's entry into this forum, exports to the Asia-Pacific region have increased at a rate of 12% per year, reaching US$40 billion as a whole.

Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United States, and Vietnam are members of this bloc.

Peru held the APEC Presidency in 2008 and 2016, playing the role of the Leaders' Summit host on both occasions.

During that last year, 1,200 businesspeople from the region and more than 3,000 representatives of international media outlets arrived in the South American country.
