Peru marks 50 years of diplomatic relations with New Zealand

Peru commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations with New Zealand, the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Sunday.

Said relations are based on broad similarities on issues of particular importance and on a fluid bilateral dialogue.

"Peru reiterates its full willingness to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite both countries," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

As is known, diplomatic relations with New Zealand were established on August 1, 1972, and the Peruvian Embassy in Wellington was reopened in April 2019.

Moreover, Jose Bustinza presented his credential letters as Peruvian Ambassador to New Zealand on April 6, 2022.

According to the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bilateral trade between the two countries totaled US$93.7 million in 2021, with Peruvian exports amounting US$24.1 million and imports amounting to US$69.6 million.

Furthermore, foreign direct investment from New Zealand to Peru reached US$6.8 million in 2021, mainly in the construction sector.
