The first 5 kilometers of
will start functioning at the end of 2021, Peruvian Transport and Communications Minister Edmer Trujillo said on Thursday.
In remarks to Radio Nacional, the cabinet member explained that —by the end of 2020— the route from Santa Anita Market to Evitamiento Road will be tested, so that it can be put into service in optimal conditions.
It should be noted this
line will be underground in its entirety and will transport the population from Lima's Ate district to Callao region (35 kilometers).
The Transport-Communications minister indicated that next year the tunnel-boring machine will be put into operation. This is a special device manufactured in Germany and assembled in Peru. Thus, the underground tunnel —through which the train will pass— will be excavated.
These modern machines —each with a diameter of more than 10 m and a length of 120 m— will excavate the subsoil as if they were drills, so their passage will not have a greater impact on the activity carried out by the population at the top.
Trujillo also reported that more than 750 inspectors of the Ministry are working in coordination with the National Police in the inspection of passenger transport buses on the country's roads during the current holiday season.
