The Judicial Branch on Thursday rejected a habeas corpus appeal to release
Peru's former President Alberto Fujimori.
The habeas corpus appeal filed by Fujimori's defense also sought the restoration of the terms of Supreme Resolution No. 281-2017-JUS.
By said resolution, the government at that time granted a humanitarian pardon to the ex-President. Afterwards, said benefit was revoked.
Argument
Today's judicial resolution responds to the appeal that Fujimori's defense filed regarding the sentence issued on September 6, 2023, which rejected a habeas corpus petition to release the former Head of State.
"We have not been able to determine an alleged infringement of the right of individual freedom or its related rights protected within the scope of the habeas corpus; therefore, to the agreement of this deliberative body, the appeal is inadmissible," the court stated in its resolution.
