Peru: Judiciary declares inadmissible Keiko Fujimori's habeas corpus

11:12 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Aug. 4.

Arequipa Court's Criminal Appeals Chamber on Wednesday declared inadmissible the habeas corpus submitted by Julio Jove Vilca aimed at releasing former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori, who is under investigation for alleged money laundering offenses.

The Judiciary informed the decision on Twitter.

In August, the Supreme Court on did not issue a resolution concerning the cassation appeal submitted by Fujimori's defense aimed at regaining her freedom.

For that reason, temporary Supreme Judge Susana Castañeda will give her casting vote on September 12.

The Judicial Branch declared well-founded the request made by the Prosecutor's Office to imprison Fujimori because of the danger of obstruction of justice that implied keeping her free.

After having fled to Japan and traveled to Chile —from where he was extradited to Peru— the Fujimori patriarch was sentenced for crimes against human rights and corruption committed during his term in office.
