The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the situation of Peruvians traveling abroad to serve in the armed forces of Russia and Ukraine.

The government agency said in its statement that, after receiving various reports of compatriots who are ill or have been reported missing, "close monitoring of their cases is underway, and information has been requested from the authorities of those countries."

"Likewise, it was reported that the repatriation of four compatriots who went to Peru's Embassy in Moscow last weekend requesting assistance was successfully completed," it indicated.

The ministry specified that these four compatriots arrived in Peru on April 21 and 22, after receiving assistance provided by the Consular Section of Peru's Mission.

"Meanwhile, the Consular Section of Peru's Embassy in Poland reported assisting a compatriot arriving from Ukraine, who was provided guidance and assistance for his safe return to Peruvian soil," the ministry stated.

On the other hand, it reminded compatriots seeking job opportunities in foreign armed forces in conflict zones that they must first obtain the corresponding authorization, in accordance with the provisions of subsection 23 of Article 118 of Peru's Political Constitution.

"Likewise, they are urged to take all necessary precautions to learn in detail the duties they will perform, as well as their rights and obligations," the statement said.

It also added that Peru's Embassies in the Russian Federation and in Poland remain attentive to any request from compatriots.

For that purpose, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made available the contact details of those missions:
