The recently-sworn-in Interior Minister Gaston Rodriguez has affirmed that one of the main lines of action of his administration will be the health of police officers, who are on the frontline in the fight against COVID-19.
"It is our duty to take care of them, and that will be one of my administration's lines of action. The police have to be properly cared for, and we are going to make every effort to do so," Rodriguez said Saturday as he visited members of the Special Services Unit (USE) of the
National Police (PNP).
The government official disclosed that 220,000 COVID-19 tests will arrive next week and will be available to the PNP Health Department.
Additionally, he said coronavirus testing resumed on Friday with a batch of 20,000 rapid diagnostic kits, and that 25,000 rapid and molecular tests have been conducted so far.
In this regard, he stressed the need to supply police officers —who patrol the streets, providing security across the country— with the biosafety equipment purchased by the
Interior Ministry for nearly S/50 million (about US$14.7 million).
As is known, Gaston Cesar Augusto Rodriguez Limo was sworn in as the new Interior Minister of Peru Friday in a ceremony at Lima's Government Palace.
