Peru: Independence Day activities held under health protocols

The activities on the occasion of the 199th anniversary of Peru's Independence took place under public health guidelines related to COVID-19, the Presidency of the Republic reported on Sunday.

"Do your part by practicing social distancing, washing your hands and staying at home. Together we are going to defeat the coronavirus! #PrimeroMiSalud (My Health Comes First)," reads the post on Twitter.

The publication includes a video that features the official activities commemorating Peru's Independence Day in unprecedented circumstances surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

The images show President Martin Vizcarra and his wife First Lady Maribel Diaz participating in the Solemn Mass and Te Deum on July 28.

In addition, the video includes scenes at Congress, where the Head of State and legislators are seen wearing masks and observing social distancing.
