The Government has extended the duration of the state of emergency in 45 distrists across the regions of Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Cusco, and Junin for 60 calendar days to combat terrorism and other ilitic activities.
The measure covers districts in the provinces of Huanta and La Mar (Ayacucho region), Tayacaja and Churcampa (Huancavelica región), La Convención (Cusco region), Satipo, Concepcion and Huancayo (Junin region), as well as the population center of Yuveni in the district of Vilcabamba, within the province of La Convencion (Cusco region).
During this extension, the provisions of Subsection 1 of Article 137 of the Constitution —regarding the restriction and suspension of the exercise of constitutional rights relating to the inviolability of homes, freedom of transit across the national territory, freedom of assembly, as well as personal freedom and security —included in subsections 9), 11), 12), and 24), paragraph f) of Article 2 contained in Peru's Political Constitution— will be fulfilled.
The decree provides that the Armed Forces will assume the control of internal order, while the Peruvian National Police will support the Armed Forces on the achievement of this objective in the areas where the state of emergency has been declared.
