paid homage to the 50 years of international cooperation on submarines existing between the two countries.
"We value the fact that Peru had chosen Germany in regards to the submarine sector, which is a sign of trust and preference for quality, durability in the relations with Germany," he stressed.
The cooperation was agreed in May 1971 between Peru's then-Navy Ministry and Germany's Federal Ministry of Defense. It was related to the purchase of Type 209 Submarines.
Since then, over 250 Peruvian submariners have been trained in the European country.
In fact, the cooperation has been strengthened and increased constantly, and it stands on a broad base nowadays.
Within this framework, three essential aspects can be mentioned.
In first place, Peru's submarine force is synonymous with excellence, high performance, and great reputation.
Secondly, technical progress based on the abovementioned cooperation led to a technology and knowledge transfer that has helped develop the armament and logistic capabilities of the
State-run Navy and the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA).
Lastly, Peru and Germany have a well-established, trustworthy, and fruitful cooperation on security, military, and armament policies.
The small ceremony was held at the Naval Center in Lima's San Borja district on Friday. It was also attended by Peruvian Navy officials.
