Peru: Franchise sector to grow over 17% in 2018

09:08 | Lima, Jul. 17.

Peru's franchise sector will expand above 17% this year in 14 diverse fields, such as gastronomy, fashion, entertainment and beauty, among others, the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) projected.

According to PromPeru's Service Export Department Coordinator David Edery, some 40 foreign franchises are expected to operate in the Inca country in 2018.

It must be noted about 20 franchises have already arrived in Peru so far this year.

53% of them belong to the gastronomy sector, while the remaining 47% correspond to other segments.

"I think there has been a significant growth in the (franchise) sector last year. Franchises generated US$1.7 billion," Edery pointed out.

"Two new Peruvian franchises have recently opened in Colombia, and other seven companies are currently getting ready," he added.

In this regard, the official remarked Colombia is the fourth most important market for Peruvian franchises. Chile tops said list, followed by Ecuador, and Panama.

"In Colombia, we have already held 126 business meetings, there are large demand and business dynamism. As things stand, this nation may soon become the third (largest) market for Peruvians," he said.

Statements were made during the presentation of the 5th International Franchise Forum taking place on July 18-19 at Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) facilities.
