Peru: Finds reveal Aspero society led intercultural interaction 5,000 years ago

The Caral Archaeological Zone on Monday presented archaeological findings that demonstrate the society of Aspero —Caral civilization's fishing town— mastered intercultural exchange 5,000 years ago.

Led by Ruth Shady, researchers presented the findings that demonstrate how this society interacted with other groups and cultures.

This interaction is believed to have reached Ecuador, through the coast, and the Amazon area, by river.

According to the research team, Aspero inhabitants established two communication routes: land and sea.

These relations developed a mutual benefit approach, as well as a sense of respect for other cultures, their customs, and languages.

Said interactions included exchange of goods, knowledge, and experiences with coast, highland, and rainforest populations.

Among the findings proving such interaction are offerings known as ojos de Dios (God's eyes).
