The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reaffirmed the sovereign will of the Peruvian Government to renew its diplomatic relations with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, in accordance with Official Communiqué No. 017-2021 dated September 8, 2021.

"It reiterates the right to free self-determination of the Sahrawi people, in accordance with Resolution 1514 of the United Nations General Assembly, the universal principles and postulates contained in the United Nations Charter, and respect for international law," the government agency pointed out in a statement.

It must be noted that Official Communiqué No. 017-2021 indicates that the Governments of the Republic of Peru and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic —inspired by the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and in accordance with what the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations establishes— agree to reestablish diplomatic relations between both countries.
