Peru: Decentralized Council of Ministers in Puno addresses territorial development agenda

The Fifth Decentralized Council of Ministers held in Puno is addressing the territorial development agenda in said region.

The meeting features Prime Minister Anibal Torres and State ministers, as well as regional and local authorities.

The Fifth Decentralized Council of Ministers, where President Pedro Castillo is expected to attend, is taking place in the province of Huancane.

The top dignitary's work agenda in Puno also includes his participation in an activity that involves the provision of food in the district of Huata, as part of the national school feeding program Qali Warma.

On Thursday, the Head of State took part in the 4th Decentralized Council of Ministers held in the central Andean city of Huancayo, in Junin region.

At the meeting, he emphasized that protest and demonstration organizers must never be prosecuted.

"For instance, some groups are protesting today (Thursday), such the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) and teachers; protest and demonstration organizers can use the streets and public squares to demonstrate because that is what democracy is all about," he remarked.

"We will lay down the foundations for the right to free demonstration and protest in Peru," he added.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo congratulated the protesters who took to the streets. "As they have always done with me, defending water, life, and education," he said.

However, he underlined that demonstrations must be conducted in the best way, without violence.

Furthermore, Mr. Castillo expressed his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of those who died during the demonstrations that have taken place in recent days in Peru.
