The Permanent Representative of Peru to the United Nations, Ambassador Victor Garcia Toma, participated with 40 other permanent representatives at a press conference on the draft resolution that urges UN member states to promote safe and reliable artificial intelligence systems.

Thus, Peru joins this global initiative in order to address the main challenges facing sustainable development, including those related to the elimination of poverty, global health, food security, climate, and education.

Furthermore, these Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems may enable huge progress to meet the Sustainable Development Goals if the risks posed by AI systems are mitigated and the benefits are shared inclusively.

This initiative seeks to establish a shared vision that AI systems should be human-centric, reliable, explainable, ethical, and inclusive.

Likewise, this project must preserve privacy and be responsible, with a sustainable development orientation, and in full respect, promotion and protection of human rights and international law.
