14:45 | Callao (Callao region), Feb. 2.

Governor Ciro Castillo Rojo arrived at the Callao Regional Government headquarters on Monday morning to resume his duties, after the Judiciary lifted the preventive detention order issued against him in the case known as "Los Socios del Callao" (The Associates of Callao).

The regional authority's appearance came days after the judicial ruling that overturned the preventive detention order against him.

Judicial decision

Subsequently, the First Criminal Appeals Chamber partially declared the appeal filed by his defense well founded, lifted the preventive detention order, and ruled that the regional governor face the proceedings under restricted release.

The case

The prosecutorial investigation against Ciro Castillo Rojo is part of the case known as “Los Socios del Callao,” which involves the alleged steering of contracts within the Callao Regional Government worth more than S/1.4 million (over US$433,181).

It should be recalled that Ciro Castillo Rojo had been a fugitive since December, after a 15-day preliminary detention was requested.

The measure was later overturned following judicial review of the case.
