Some 256,000 health sector workers were already vaccinated against COVID-19 in Peru as of Friday at 4:00 p.m. (local time), Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Claudia Cornejo has reported.

At a press conference, the high-ranking official said this is a figure which generates hope and reaffirms President Francisco Sagasti's commitment to continue immunizing a larger number of the population in the shortest time possible.

"The Government does not stop; despite all the things that have been happening, we continue with the objective of vaccinating 10 million before this Government's term in office ends (on July 28, 2021)," she indicated.

Regarding the payment of government grants (each worth S/600 = US$164) to vulnerable citizens, the Cabinet member explained that today Group 2 of households —which are not included in social programs— began to receive this monetary amount.
