Peru: 12 clinics accept to sign agreement with Health Ministry to treat COVID-19 patients

17:52 | Lima, Jul. 1.

A total of 12 private clinics have accepted to sign agreements with the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) for the care of seriously-ill COVID-19 patients so far.

In this regard, Health Minister Victor Zamora noted that the remaining private establishments with mechanical ventilation are still able to sign the same deal.

The Minsa head explained that the Association of Private Clinics of Peru (ACP) includes 61 private health facilities, and those that provide mechanical ventilation are still able to adhere to the terms of reference to sign the agreement with the Ministry of Health.

The private sector, he said, has 260 ICU beds, while the public one aims to have 2,000, after it acquired 650 mechanical ventilation units in coordination with all health systems.

Zamora emphasized that a positive relationship is being built up between the public and private systems, which will improve access to health services.

"This is not only important for clinics, but also for the insurance system because —after the agreement reached by Minsa, EsSalud, and private clinic was announced— insurance companies no longer apply copayment nor have a limit for COVID-19 financing," he stated.

"In fact, some clinics reported that they would reimburse the sums of money (paid by patients) exceeding S/55,000 (about US$15,532 —the maximum amount negotiated with the Government)," the minister added.
