The
Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) on Sunday said that Peru will assume the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Pacific Alliance (AP) on August 1 this year, noting that an increase in trade, tourism, and investment is expected.
According to the government agency, the work agenda was pursued bilaterally during these months in which Peru could not assume the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the bloc, that is, actions to promote investment, tourism and exports continued to be taken in coordination with Chile, Colombia, and Mexico.
However, it explained that this is not only about two-way trade with these countries, but also about global value chains with third countries.
The Ministry noted that this type of opportunity was slightly wasted during the aforementioned period, but this is being corrected.
According to
Minister Juan Carlos Mathews, Asia —especially China— is an important partner for Peru, and the recovery of this work space within the Pacific Alliance makes it possible to exploit this type of opportunity for the Asian market.
Moreover, the head of Mincetur underlined that Peru has a strength that the rest of Latin American countries lack: a well-distributed and diversified commercial structure.
Mathews underscored that this makes it possible to work with several markets simultaneously, which is why Peru is one of the countries with the best performance in terms of export progress in the region and around the world.
