In 2024, the year in which Peru will exercise the Presidency of the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, more than 160 meetings will be held in Trujillo, Arequipa, Cusco, Pucallpa, and Lima —the
five cities chosen as the venues for such an important event— said Ambassador Carlos Chavez-Taffur, chair of the working group in charge of the organization.
"These are meetings of different types: working groups, forums, seminars, technical teams, ministerial meetings, everything that leads to the realization of the summit to be held in Lima, in November 2024," he told RPP Noticias.
The diplomat reported that meetings of Trade and Women ministers will be held in Arequipa, as well as a joint gathering involving both sectors.
The meetings of Tourism ministers and Finance's high-ranking officials will be hosted by the city of Urubamba, in Cusco region.
Meanwhile, the meeting of SMEs ministers and the Labor Week will take place in the city of Pucallpa.
In addition, the city of Trujillo will host the Food Security Week, which will be completed with a meeting of Agriculture ministers.
According to Chavez-Taffur, the Meeting of Leaders and Heads of State and Government will be held in Lima, at the Lima Convention Center, for which the necessary coordination will be made.
Likewise, the International Media Center will be located at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture.
As part of preparatory actions, he said, the working group has visited the different venues, providing information about the APEC forum, as well as drawing support from regional and local authorities, private sector associations, universities, and citizens in general.
