Japan was the third-largest destination for Peruvian exports in 2022, totaling US$3.157 billion, which represented an increase of 7.7% from 2021 (US$2.932 billion), the
Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex) has reported.
It should be pointed out that 92.3% of these exports were traditional products, mainly minerals and hydrocarbons.
The products that stood out the most were copper, gas, natural gas, zinc, and raw tin.
The value-added products, which accounted for
7.7% of total exports, included Peruvian giant squid, avocados, liver, salted roes or roes in brine, trout fillets, and asparagus, which in October will be joined by
grapes, whose
entry into the Japanese market was announced by the
National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) last March.
During her participation at the "Peru-Japan Business Meeting: Trade and Investment Opportunities," held within the framework of the 150th anniversary of Peru-Japan diplomatic relations, ADEX Agro-export Manager Claudia Solano provided details of the mission "Fresh and Frozen Exports to Japan," conducted from August 29 to September 1.
"The aim was to strengthen ties between both nations. Avocados, mangoes, and tangerines were presented, although the main focus was on grapes. Japanese buyers showed a great interest in this particular fruit," she remarked.
Fraternal ties between both countries
For his part, the Chairman of the
Peruvian Japanese Business Council (CEPEJA) and former Chairman of the Peruvian Exporters Association (Adex),
Luis G. Vega Monteferri, gave details of the
14th Peru-Japan Bilateral Meeting, to be held on November 9 at Park Hotel in Tokyo, with the aim of promoting value-added exports to said Asian destination.
"We seek to strengthen the fraternal ties between both nations, as well as increase economic, business, trade, and financial relations, which will have a positive impact on mutual growth and the comprehensive development of our countries, enterprises, and population," he expressed.
