IACHR high-level mission will visit Peru on Jan 11-13

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a high-level mission of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will visit Peru from January 11 to 13 at the invitation of the Peruvian State.

The mission will be chaired by the IACHR Rapporteur for Peru, Commissioner Stuardo Ralon.

In addition, it will be made up of Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression Pedro Vaca Villareal, Commissioner Joel Hernandez Garcia, and IACHR experts.

The mission is expected to meet with high-ranking national authorities and members of civil society.

This visit represents another example of transparency and commitment of the current government to the promotion and protection of human rights, for which all possible facilities will be provided.

IACHR condemns deaths in Puno

For its part, the IACHR condemned the death of at least 17 people in clashes held near the Juliaca airport in Puno region on Monday, January 9.

"The IACHR urges the State to take immediate measures to prevent and punish the excessive use of force during social protests and continue establishing effective dialogue mechanisms to address social conflict and prevent it," the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights said in a statement on Twitter.
