Fin Ministry maintains Peru's 2021 GDP growth forecast at 10%

08:30 | Lima, Aug. 9.

Economy and Finance Minister Pedro Francke has affirmed that his sector maintains Peru's 2021 GDP growth forecast at 10%, due to the recovery that is already underway in various sectors.

"We are maintaining our 2021 GDP growth forecast at 10%. Growth has been held up quite well, and leading indicators have kept growing," he affirmed.

Additionally, the government official noted that the forecasts of private investment in large projects such as the Chancay Port Terminal, the construction of the expansion project of the Jorge Chavez International Airport, and the Salaverry Port, are making good progress.

As for the investment in the mining sector, he indicated that the Quellaveco and Mina Justa projects are going ahead at a good pace.

"We are well underway, we are happy, very well, and we need to make sure that there is no problem with the communities, but this is going well," the Cabinet member told Latina local channel.

Budget for 2022

On the other hand, the high-ranking official remarked that the Economy and Finance Ministry's (MEF) main task is to prepare the Budget of the Republic for 2022, noting that time is very short since the deadline for its submission to Congress is August 30.

In this sense, the head of MEF mentioned that he has sent out letters to all ministers so as to work with each sector to prepare such budget, since additional demands from previous ministers amount to about S/78 billion (around US$19 billion).

"The good news for this year is that tax collection is on the right path. We will surely be below the fiscal target set by Waldo Mendoza, and this opens a fiscal space to initiate planned projects," Francke stated.
