Panettone is the traditional sweet bread made with flour and candied fruit, a staple on every Peruvian Christmas Eve table. It is so popular and widely consumed in Peru that, to date, there are 1,054 registered and active panettone brands nationwide with Indecopi (Peru's National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property).

This number of registrations is the result of a search conducted in the databases of Indecopi's Distinctive Signs Directorate, demonstrating the interest of companies and entrepreneurs in protecting their brands and competing in a market with high demand during the Christmas season.

Among the oldest registered panettone brands are D’Onofrio, present in the country since 1956; and Motta, which introduced the Italian panettone recipe in the 1950s.

Todinno brand entered the market in 1978; Winter’s, also known for its line of chocolates and confectionery; San Jorge, a widely consumed brand; and Gloria, which has been in this sector since 2006.

There are also other panettone brands known to consumers, such as Blanca Flor, Bauducco, Buon Natale, and Unión, among many others that are part of the offerings available during the Christmas season.

Hot chocolate bars

Panettone is usually accompanied by a cup of hot chocolate, another essential part of these celebrations. In this sector, Indecopi has registered 47 brands of hot chocolate bars, reflecting the tradition and presence of producers from different regions of the country.

Some of the hot chocolate brands offered on the market include La Ibérica, founded in 1909 in Arequipa; Sol del Cusco, created in 1971; Winter’s, with a national presence; and Cacaosuyo, specializing in single-origin chocolates. Orquídea, from the San Martín region; and La Cholita Cusco, with its traditional-style hot chocolate.

Indecopi reminds micro and small businesses (MSMEs) that, through the "Protect Your Dream. Register Your Trademark" campaign, they can access a 25% discount on trademark registration fees.
