Defense Minister Luis Arroyo highlighted the Peruvian commitment to confronting transnational crime during the Americas Counter Cartel Conference, held at the U.S. Southern Command headquarters in Doral, Florida.

"Peru is firmly committed to the fight against transnational criminal organizations. This is a complex and multidimensional phenomenon," he stated during the event led by U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Thursday.

At another point, Minister Arroyo said that drug trafficking, narcoterrorism, illicit arms trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal mining operate through structures that transcend borders using emerging technologies.

"These threats are projected simultaneously across the land, maritime, air, and cyber domains, which demand comprehensive and coordinated responses. For Peru, the fight against drug trafficking constitutes a strategic priority," he emphasized.

In addition, the Defense Ministry's (Mindef) head underscored that Peru has worked actively in the negotiation and signing of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime, reflecting the South American country's commitment to prevent and punish such conduct.

The Peruvian government official also said it is necessary to strengthen interoperability, exchange information, enhance countries' capabilities, as well as consolidate mutual trust and respect for the sovereignty of states.

"I would like to reaffirm our commitment to coordinated action that preserves regional stability and guarantees a safer and more prosperous hemisphere for our nations," he concluded.

Mindef said the minister's participation in the Americas Counter Cartel Conference, which brings together defense and security leaders from across the region, follows an invitation from the United States Embassy.

It also strengthens relations between the two countries.
