The People's Republic of China has expressed its willingness to cooperate with Peru in its fight against crime and organized criminality, contributing technologies and management experience that have yielded positive results in the Asian country, its ambassador in Lima, Song Yang, announced.

The diplomat participated in the "II Latin America and the Caribbean-China Development Forum" held at the Andean Community (CAN) headquarters in Lima on Wednesday.

Within this framework, the ambassador stated that China is willing to work with Latin America to jointly implement the Global Security Initiative, as part of its Peace Program for this part of the world.

This will involve cooperation in the fight against organized crime, corruption, drugs, and terrorism, as well as in disaster management and cybersecurity, "in a joint effort to safeguard the region's security and stability."

"We have accumulated extensive experience in crime-fighting and the building of safe cities (…) we are ready to develop training and cooperation programs in accordance with Peru's needs, sharing advanced technologies and management experience, bringing a greater sense of security and well-being to the Peruvian people," he stated.

The envoy stated that, thanks to the support of advanced technologies and integrated management platforms, China safeguards public security for its 1.4 billion citizens, with its police force solving 99.9% of homicide cases.

Visa exemption for Peruvians

In his address, the Chinese representative also invited Peruvians to visit China to get to know its culture and traditions, now that they have been exempted from visa requirements for stays of up to 30 days for tourism, business, or exchanges.

"We invite more Peruvians to visit China, to travel, explore, and write a new chapter of spiritual connection between our fellow peoples," he expressed.

The measure has been in effect since June 1. It also applies to citizens of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay.

"In a turbulent world where some countries build walls and expel foreigners, China is firmly opening its doors to the people of Peru and other Latin American countries," he remarked.
