The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, expressed Thursday his recognition of workers across the country on the occasion of International Workers' Day, which is observed tomorrow.

"Today, we celebrate the Peru that works, the Peru that strives, the Peru that does not give up, because if anything defines our country, it is the effort of its people to achieve concrete results," he said during the 2026 Order of Labor awarding ceremony.

Within the framework of International Workers' Day commemoration, the president recalled the struggle of the labor movement and the so-called Chicago Martyrs, who demanded the reduction of the working day to eight hours.

During his remarks, the top official highlighted the dedication and perseverance of those honored this year with the Order of Labor distinction.

"You are an example of commitment, perseverance, and service to the country. You have rightfully earned this distinction, and even then, it may still fall short," he stated.

The Order of Labor is the highest recognition granted by the nation to individuals who, in a meritorious manner, have contributed to workers' well-being, labor harmony promotion, labor legislation enhancement, employment generation, vocational training, occupational health and safety, in addition to social security.

This award is granted to institutions (legal entities), workers from both public and private sectors, as well as employers, academics, and specialists dedicated to research on labor relations and the job market.
