Peru: President and Economy Minister meet with heads of JNE, ONPE, and Reniec

The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, accompanied by Economy and Finance Minister Denisse Miralles, met with the leaders of the National Elections Board (JNE), the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) to address the allocation of additional budget for the 2026 General Elections.

According to the Presidential Office, the allocation of an additional S/588 million (US$175 million) for the ONPE and S/114 million (US$33.92 million) for the JNE was addressed to ensure the conduct of the 2026 electoral process.

The meeting was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

The 2026 General Elections will be held on April 12, to elect the President of the Republic, 60 senators, 130 deputies, and representatives to the Andean Parliament.

During his inaugural address, President Balcazar said that guaranteeing free and transparent elections will be one of his administration's priorities.
