According to the government agency, this measure is being carried out under a bilateral agreement between both countries that allows for the reception and accommodation of irregular migrants while their asylum or refugee applications are resolved.
Likewise, the document specified that this benefit is granted to foreign nationals who have legal protection issued by judges of U.S. immigration courts.
It added that this mechanism is generally applied when applicants argue that their lives would be at risk if they were returned to their countries of origin.
In that context, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to providing assistance and protection to Peruvians abroad, regardless of their migration status.
The Executive Branch institution said it stands ready to provide support and guidance if required.
