BCR: Total credit in Peru up 7.3% year-on-year in March 2026

Total credit to the private sector — including loans granted by banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks, and cooperatives — reached S/439.718 billion (about US$124.955 billion) as of March this year, a 7.3% increase compared to the same month in 2025, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR)) reported on Wednesday.

Thus, the year-on-year growth rate increased from an expansion of 7.1% last February.

By segments, year-on-year growth in credit to individuals rose from 7.4% in February to 7.6% in March.

Meanwhile, credit to businesses grew at a year-on-year rate of 7.1% in March, slightly above the 7% expansion recorded in February.

Finally, by currency, credit in Peruvian soles rose from a year-on-year growth rate of 5.7% in February to 5.9% in March.

Meanwhile, foreign-currency credit remained at 12.7% year-on-year in both months.
