The vote count process at each polling station could take between six and eight hours, the Electoral Documentation and Research Deputy Manager at the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), Pablo Hartill, estimated.
The official noted that polling station members will use the Technological Solution to Support Vote Counting (STAE) in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region, which will facilitate said process.
However, he noted that 2026 General Elections results will be released starting at 5:00 p.m. (local time), based on the information available at that time, with updates every 15 minutes.
Hartill said that, following the electoral body's recommendation, polling station members should begin with the vote count for the presidential election (which could take between two and three hours), followed by the Senate, Deputies, and Andean Parliament elections.
"Polling station members have autonomy, although they will always receive assistance from ONPE. We estimate that the vote count could conclude between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. The vote count for President of the Republic should be conducted first," he stated.
Computers at each polling station
The ONPE official explained that polling station members in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region will have the Technological Solution to Support Vote Counting (STAE). Thus, each polling station will be equipped with a computer and a printer.
This tool will allow them to speed up the completion of electoral records and reduce the likelihood of errors when adding up votes.
"The results from these polling stations will be transmitted directly to the computing centers, speeding up the processing of results," he pointed out.
Hartill indicated that the vote count and electoral records completion will be carried out manually at the remaining polling stations.
ONPE staff will transport these records to the computing centers, where they will be digitized and tallied.
Hartill said ONPE will not release preliminary vote count updates this time, unlike in other electoral processes.
Results will be available to the public from 5:00 p.m. on the ONPE website.
He stated that the electoral body's system is taking precautions to ensure the website will not be affected by the volume of visits it is expected to receive.
