Peru's Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Cesar Llona met with the
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Song Yang, to strengthen bilateral dialogue and deepening trade relations between the two countries.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry headquarters in Lima, the authorities highlighted the dynamism of bilateral trade and the importance of bringing into force the Optimization Protocol of the Free Trade Agreement between Peru and China.
The dignitaries considered it a key instrument to boost trade, investment, and facilitate the activities of foreign trade operators.
The officials exchanged views on the relevance of the upcoming APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting (MRT) to be organized by China from May 20 to 23 in the city of Suzhou, highlighting its importance for strengthening Asia-Pacific economic integration.
Likewise, they underscored the work being carried out by both countries' sanitary authorities to materialize market access for agricultural products in China, such as pomegranates and bananas, whose entry has recently been approved.

The People's Republic of China is the main destination for Peruvian exports.
In the first two months of 2026, China was the main destination for 39% of total exports, with a value of US$6.936 billion (+46%), driven by higher shipments of copper, gold, lead, fishmeal, among others.
