The Ministry of Defense also extended greetings to the Peruvian Army's Communications Branch on its 66th anniversary.
Similarly, Mindef recognized its valuable service to national defense.
José Olaya (1791–1823), a fisherman from Lima’s Chorrillos district, played an important role in the cause of Peru's independence by serving as a messenger between patriot forces based in Callao and Lima.
The hero was executed by firing squad on June 29, 1823, after refusing to reveal the identities of those involved in the network.
