A total of 180 members of the Armed Forces, comprising the 11th Contingent of the Peru Engineering Company, are preparing to deploy on July 7 to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

The mission seeks to help improve security in conflict-affected countries.

The farewell ceremony for the Blue Helmets was held at Army Headquarters in Lima. It was presided over by Defense Minister Amadeo Flores.

The government official expressed his deep gratitude for the commitment and responsibility the Armed Forces have demonstrated in every mission over the past 10 years.

"This year, 2026, we commemorate a decade of uninterrupted presence in the mission, an effort that has established Peru as a national benchmark in peacekeeping operations. You will not only help close infrastructure gaps, but also create new opportunities and help ensure peace and the well-being of citizens," he expressed.

In that regard, the Cabinet member encouraged them to honor the commitment of a peacekeeper through exemplary conduct and a spirit of service.

"Rest assured that the institution and the country will remain attentive to and committed to your well-being. I wish you every success in your mission. Maintain your discipline and return home with the satisfaction of a duty well fulfilled," he added.

Army, Navy, and Air Force

The contingent comprises personnel from the following forces: Army (113), Navy (40), and Air Force (27).

Of the total, 22 members are women, a distinctive feature of Peru's participation that has steadily increased over time and exceeds international standards for such operations.

The Peru Engineering Company's primary mission is the construction and maintenance of airfields, as well as support for maintaining highways, rural roads, and modular bridges.

It sets up peacekeeping bases for other contingents as well.

Likewise, the Peruvian contingent has mine clearance and improvised explosive device (IED) disposal capabilities.

All these activities facilitate the mobility of peacekeeping forces and improve the local population's living conditions.

With the deployment of the new contingent, Peru reaffirms its enduring commitment to United Nations peacekeeping operations, showcasing its Armed Forces' professionalism and vocation for service.

The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General Cesar Briceño; the General Commanders of the Army, General Oswaldo Calle, and the Air Force, Air General Mario Contreras; as well as chiefs of staff, inspectors of the Armed Forces, military attachés, and relatives of the contingent's members.
