Within the framework of government measures to address the intense rains affecting much of the country, the
held talks with Congressman Eduardo Castillo and local authorities from Piura region, northern Peru.
The Presidential Office reported that urgent preventive measures were coordinated at the meeting in response to the persistent rains affecting this part of the country, including improvements to the sewage system.
"Listening firsthand to the reality in Piura and acting in a timely manner is key to protecting families and reducing risks. The government remains firmly committed to being present and standing with the population during these difficult times," the Executive Branch said in a post on X.
State of emergency due to rains
As reported, Supreme Decree No. 019-2026-PCM, published on Wednesday, declared a state of emergency in several districts across provinces in 21 regions nationwide.
The regulation establishes that the state of emergency will be in effect for 60 calendar days.
During that time exceptional, immediate, and necessary measures will be implemented to address the very high level of risk, along with the corresponding response and rehabilitation actions.
The declaration of the state of emergency covers the following regions: Amazonas, Ancash, Apurimac, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Huancavelica, Huanuco, Ica, Junin, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Loreto, Moquegua, Pasco, Piura, San Martin, Tacna, Tumbes, and Ucayali.
