Peru: Kuczynski's travel ban confirmed for 18 months

01:00 | Lima, Aug. 23.

The Third National Criminal Chamber of the Superior National Court (CSN) has confirmed the ruling that imposes an 18-month travel ban abroad on former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski.

The former top official is under investigation for alleged crime of money laundering and others against the Peruvian State.

The ruling also urges the Public Ministry (Prosecutor's Office) to expedite the process and to report every two months on the progress of the investigation.

As is known, the Judiciary ordered an 18-month travel ban for the former top official on June 8.

Fourth Preliminary Investigation Court of the Superior National Court Judge Margarita Salcedo based her decision on the latent risk of flight due to the seriousness of the acts under investigation and the severe penalties under the relevant criminal provisions.

Kuczynski was President of the Republic from July 2016 to March 2018, when he resigned from office.
