The National Justice Board (JNJ) on Tuesday accepted the resignation submitted shortly before by Piero Corvetto from the post of head of the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE).

The announcement was made through a communiqué after the board was informed of the resignation letter tendered by the outgoing official.

"Following deliberation, it was unanimously agreed to accept, effective as of today, the resignation submitted by Piero Corvetto Salinas from the post of head of ONPE," the statement said.

"It was further agreed to notify the National Elections Board (JNE), the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (RENIEC), and ONPE for the purposes established by law."

According to the statement, the decision was taken during an extraordinary plenary session convened to evaluate and adopt the measures deemed appropriate within the framework of its constitutional and legal powers.

Separately, the JNJ said it will continue the preliminary investigation involving the former official over the publicly known events that occurred during election day on April 12, 2026.

"The National Justice Board reaffirms that its actions will be carried out with strict respect for due process and in accordance with the constitutional mandate, with the aim of guaranteeing transparency, legality, and the defense of the democratic system," it added.
