Peru, as a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council's Commission on Population and Development (CPD), took part in the body's 59th session.

The meeting was held at UN headquarters in New York from April 13 to 17, under the theme "Population, technology and research in the context of sustainable development."

The Peruvian delegation participated in the general debate and attended the scheduled official activities.

In its statement, Peru emphasized that technology and research are essential tools for accelerating sustainable development when guided by a human rights, inclusion, and equity approach.

Likewise, it underscored the importance of strengthening population data systems with information disaggregated by sex, age, ethnic background, and territory.

Peru presented national progress in the 2025 Census, carried out with technical assistance from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), as well as the National Interoperability Platform (PIDE), digital health, and telehealth.

It also highlighted the law promoting the use of artificial intelligence and the Telework Law, the latter as a tool for work-life balance.

Peru reaffirmed its commitment to the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development, the Montevideo Consensus on Population and Development, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The statement was made within the framework of its membership in ECOSOC for the 2026-2028 term.
