Peru: Police seize 11 kg of cocaine at airport; passenger was bound for London

The Peruvian National Police (PNP), through its Anti-Drug Directorate (Dirandro), detained a passenger at Jorge Chavez International Airport who was attempting to transport drugs on a route with a stopover in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and a final destination in London, the United Kingdom.

The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Diego Villajuan Arrojo, who was transporting the narcotic concealed in modified luggage.

During the inspection of his checked luggage, officers found 12 vests containing cocaine alkaloid, totaling 11.995 kilograms.

The value of the seized drugs amounts to S/1,583,000 (about US$454,102).

Authorities also confiscated a cellphone, S/550 (about US$157) in cash, and £1,000 (about US$459).

The detainee was handed over to the competent authorities for further legal proceedings.
