Peru expresses concern over situation in Middle East, calls for diplomatic dialogue

Peru, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that calm and peace will return to the Middle East and that the parties involved will achieve regional stability through dialogue.

This message was conveyed through an official statement published on the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry's official X account on Saturday.

"Peru expresses its hope that peace and calm will soon return to the Middle East and urges the parties involved to avoid actions that could aggravate the situation, as well as to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic mechanisms as the means to restore stability and peace in the region," the statement said.

Similarly, the South American country reiterated "its pacifist vocation and its support for any international initiative aimed at reducing tensions and preserving international peace and security."

"Peru reaffirms its firm commitment to unrestricted respect for International Law, the sovereignty of States, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes, in accordance with the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations," it added.

Additionally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it maintains constant follow-up of the situation and remains in communication with its diplomatic and consular missions in the region.

"These (missions) have activated emergency plans and made communication channels available to the Peruvian community in order to safeguard the safety and well-being of our fellow nationals residing in or transiting through the affected areas."

"It likewise recommends that Peruvian citizens who are in the area: remain informed through official sources; strictly follow the instructions of local authorities; and contact the corresponding consular office to register their situation and facilitate any eventual assistance actions," the document explained.

Lastly, families and friends are urged to share contact details so that Peruvian citizens who may require assistance can communicate with Peru's missions in the countries in conflict, in order for assistance to be provided.
