President Dina Boluarte arrived in the Italian city, Rome, accompanied by Affairs Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer.

Peru’s top official was received by the Holy See protocol delegation, led by Monsignor Gabriel Viola.

Also present at the welcome ceremony were the heads of Peru's diplomatic missions in Italy, Ambassadors Manuel Cacho-Sousa Velazquez and Luis Chuquihuara.

The Head of State will attend the inaugural Mass of His Holiness Leo XIV's pontificate, the first Pope of Peruvian nationality.

Also attending the ceremony will be Justice and Human Rights Minister Juan Alcantara, who is part of the official delegation.

The newly-elected Pope will be enthroned tomorrow, May 18, marking the official beginning of the pontificate of Leo XIV.

The Supreme Pontiff enthronement will take place in St. Peter's Square.

Unlike the conclave ceremony held behind closed doors, the coronation is conducted publicly to consecrate the religious leader chosen by his peers in the Catholic Church.
