The Safe Travels stamp and the launch of the Cajamarca Brand made it possible for this northern Andean region to be considered among the 10 most visited destinations in the country last year, according to the 2021 national vacationer profile report carried out by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru).

The Belen Monumental Complex, which includes museums and the Inca's Rescue Room –located in the historic city center– is among the most popular places in Cajamarca for tourists, said Edgar Abanto Zegarra, head of Cajamarca's Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur).

In statements to Andina news agency, the regional authority said that Cajamarca ranked sixth in the aforementioned study.

According to Abanto, this result was due to the tourism offer and promotion generated in said region, including proposals for tourist attractions such as adventure tourism.

He commented that the Safe Travels stamp increased the confidence of tourists to make decisions and be able to travel.

"More than 40 companies providing tourist services and attractions received the Safe Travels stamp after completion of the process of preparing the surveillance plan and the implementation of biosafety protocols," the head of Dircetur remarked.

Cajamarca has implemented the safe destination process as part of the economic recovery, complying with the regulations established by health authorities to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The attractions that received said certification include the Santa Apolonia (Saint Apollonia) hill, La Colpa, Ventanillas de Otuzco (Otuzco Windows), the Inca's Rescue Room, the Belen Monumental Complex, San Nicolas (Saint Nicolas) Lake, Cumbemayo, the Park of Giant Sculptures, and the Santuario de la Virgen del Rosario (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary) in Polloc.
