Peru: Air Force confirms Mirage 2000 aircraft missing in Arequipa

The Peruvian Air Force (FAP) on Thursday afternoon confirmed the disappearance of a Mirage 2000 aircraft in Arequipa, reported this morning, when it was performing low-altitude navigation training exercises.

Via communiqué No. 003–2024, the FAP reported that the incident occurred this morning at approximately 10:31 a.m. (local time).

The Mirage 2000 aircraft -at the service of Air Group No. 4 La Joya Air Base in Arequipa- "lost communication while it was performing low-altitude navigation training."

Once communication had become lost at 11:00 a.m. (local time), "the search, salvage, and rescue team became immediately activated using aerial means and ground patrols."

Lastly, the institution indicated that the FAP high rank command has ordered investigations in order to determine the cause of this accident.
