The
swearing-in of Joe Biden as new President of the United States will help strengthen bilateral relations with Peru, said Edgar Vasquez, head of the
Association of Peruvian Exporters' Global Business and Economy Research Center (Cien-Adex).
"The United States is an important destination for Peruvian exports, mainly of value-added ones," he stressed.
In this sense, Vasquez believes that the way such great nation handles the pandemic and Peruvian companies take advantage of the opportunities offered by over 50 U.S. States will contribute to the recovery of Peruvian exports.
It must be noted that Joe Biden has become the 46th President of the United States.
At an event organized by Adex, the Commercial Counselor at the
U.S. Embassy in Peru Pat Cassidy noted that his department offers the SelectUSA program, which is intended to promote and facilitate investment in his country.
Through this initiative, Peruvian entrepreneurs may be helped by a counselor, who will provide information for decision-making purposes, connect them with the right people, and train them in the federal regulations governing each State.
"Political-commercial relations with the North American giant take place within a framework of cordiality. Our economies complement each other, and it is clear that there is still potential to be exploited," Vasquez stated.
According to the Adex Data Trade Business Intelligence System, in 2008 (January-November) —a year before the
entry into force of the Peru-U.S. Free Trade Agreement— the United States was the main market for exports from four non-traditional sectors (agro-industry, clothing, non-metallic mining, and other sectors).
